In April 1971, the Toowoomba Caledonian Society and Burns Club coordinated the formation of the Toowoomba Caledonian Pipe Band. (to be outfitted in kilts or the Macdonald tartan).
Soon after its inception, the band played at many functions including Society Deb Balls, parades, gatherings and the like. In 1979, the band started to compete. At the first competition - the 1980 Australian Championships in Brisbane they did not gain a place in Grade 3. But by 1981 - 1982 they were placed third in Grade 3 in the Queensland Pipe Band Championships.
In 1983, the band switched to the Ancient Macbeth tartan for their kilts, with Harris tweed jackets and balmorals. In 2009, the band changed to the Ancient Smith tartan, black jackets, gillie brogues, black pipe bag covers and yellow pipe cords. The jackets were kindly donated to the band by the Toowoomba Caledonian Society.
Competition success continued into the 1990's when the band was repeatedly placed first in Grade 3 competitions in Queensland.
Nowdays, the band has evolved into a very successful social band, and has recently re-commenced playing at a competitive level.
